Cyndi Ball will show you her method for teaching children (from age 6 years and up) about beekeeping - perfect for teachers and homeschoolers. You will receive handouts and play educational games. Depending on weather, we will visit the CEBA apiary, located within Oatland Island Wildlife Center. Bring materials for note taking and a bee veil if you have one (or one will be provided).

Cyndi, the proprietor of the Lazy B Farm in Statham, Ga., is an educator, agribusiness owner, certified beekeeper, master gardener, certified agriculture teacher and a self-taught farmer. She has a degree in speech education. She is the mother of six children and has homeschooled for more than 20 years. She lives with her family on a 7-acre homestead complete with livestock and crops.

Cyndi launched Georgia's first and only certified Junior Beekeepers Program to teach children and teens how to keep hives for hobby and profit. She has worked as a farming consultant with Camp Twin Lakes, a camp for children with disabilities and serious illness. She is also now traveling internationally to educate women about making beekeeping productive and profitable. She is changing the economic dynamics in impoverished countries and enabling women to improve their quality of life by offering them a practical skill.

Cost: $5. Adults only in the classroom.

When arriving at OIWC, let the Welcome Booth attendant know you are attending this workshop so you don't have to pay the entrance fee.
