Did you know ... 
  • Each bee makes .5 teaspoons of honey in her lifetime.
  • Bees fly about 55,000 miles to collect enough nectar to produce 1 pound of honey.
  • A typical colony produces 25 pounds of honey.
  • Bees eat 6-8 pounds of honey to produce 1 pound of wax.
  • Bees forage up to five miles away from their hives.
  • Bees fly at the rate of 12 miles per hour.
  • All worker bees are females.
  • There are about 50,000 bees in a colony at peak season.
  • Bees typically live 4-6 weeks.
  • A queen can live up to four years.
  • Baby bees learn how to make honey from older bees.
